Victim of Love

With Valentine's Day coming up, I'm going through my box of past projects and posting love-related pieces all week!

Not interested in love right now? Hate it? We've all been there, and this Valentine's Day post is all about that sentiment.

Years (and years) ago, I was letting go of a toxic relationship while entering “the real world,” and found myself processing through design for the first time. Here’s a relic from that period:

"Lovefool" is a pattern inspired by, of all places, my love for my mom's retro laundry basket. I started off making a bird's life cycle, but I ultimately changed the kissing pair into a broken hearted dialogue, with one bird professing love while the other called it a fool. Very melodramatic and somewhat cheesy. Still enjoy the pattern though!

Turning my negative thoughts into something more constructive (or at least being able to see some of its ridiculousness) helped me eventually move on from them. After all, how could I be this *gestures broadly* and take myself so seriously at the same time?

Since then, I’ve revisited some of the seeds of this pattern and turned it into other things not nearly as emo. But that’s another post for another time. Hope this post gave a little smile to my broken-hearted friends, or at least you feel seen <3.
